What is it the role of 'Driver' like within the forces? Specifically the British RAF?
I have seen this role advertised and I am tempted to make my application. I've been in to a recruiting office and picked up the brochure but I'd like to know a little from people who've actually been (or encountered) military drivers- RAF drivers in particular!
Is a military driver at all similar to the stereotypical image of a civilian lorry driver? The work sounds quite varied (chauffeur, heavy goods, crane, truck..) but the only thing I'd be worried about is not getting enough time to exercise once I was out of basic training.
Do drivers get good opportunities to serve overseas? What might a typical day be, and how is their work viewed by others?

Mechanical Transport Drivers drive, operate and administer the RAF’s fleet of ground vehicles. This ranges from light motor vehicles to minibuses, large goods vehicles, passenger carrying vehicles and specialist airfield support equipment such as refuellers, aircraft tugs and mobile cranes. These vehicles play an important role in the effectiveness of the RAF, ensuring that people and equipment are available in the right place, at the right time. As a Mechanical Transport Driver, you’ll often operate on your own, away from your unit, so you’ll need initiative and self-reliance.
