Air Impact Wrench
Why won't my impact wrench take a lug bolt off the car wheel?
I have an impact wrench and an air compressor but when I try to take lug nuts off the car they won't budge. Is there a minimum CFM I need for the impact wrench to have enough torque to get the lug nuts off? MY compressor is a 5 gln 3 hp unit. I'm guessing that is not adequate? What's a good inexpensive air compressor for doing handyman type car repairs in my garage?
Your compressor has just enough pressure to service tires and small tasks. If you plan to get serious and want the wheels off and just about anything else. Dewalt makes a upright compressor that is direct drive and delivers 200 psi at a maintained 90 psi under load. I have several impact guns MAC and Snap On quality. I refer to the MAC gun as the barking dog, 650 ft lb of torque. If the nut doesn't come off, the stud snaps, in any event, something is going to give. The small compressors are just enough to aggravate you because you can't get the results you want. Your present gun may be all that you need, you just need more air and pressure.
